Channapatna, is a town located in the Ramanagara district of Karnataka which rightly earns the epithet “Gombegala Ooru’ meaning ‘Toy Town’. The art rose to prominence during the reign of Tipu Sultan, and were traditionally given as a gift during Dusheera. The wood used is ‘Aale Mara’ (Ivory Wood), which is abundant in this region, even though other forms of light wood are used.
