The craft started in 1700 in Venkatagiri, Andhra Pradesh where these sarees were handwoven for the Queens of the royalties and the Zamindars. Patronaged for generations by the Venkatagiri dynasty, the Velugoti dynasty and the Bobbili dynasty this particular craft has till date being practiced in Venkatagiri.
